Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough and Cllr Amanda Nunn (Bosworth Ward) have supported the campaign to shop local, as shops have continued to reopen across the country.
As many non-essential retailers have now been able to open their doors, Neil visited a number of these to hear more about their reopening experience.
Neil said, “We’re really fortunate to have some incredible shops across Harborough, particularly the vibrant independent retailers we have. These are often owned and run by individuals or families who aren’t backed by large institutional investors and need our support to safeguard their future.
I hope people will continue to support these retailers that do so much to enhance places like Market Harborough, Kibworth, Fleckney. Great Glen and some of the other villages. It really is a case of “use it or lose it” in these difficult economic times we’re in. I’d like to pay tribute to these businesses for doing their best to weather the storm and reopening to provide the brilliant service that many have been doing for a number of years. I’d also like to thank all of the volunteers who are helping to ensure safe socially-distanced shopping.
One of the volunteers, Cllr Amanda Nunn said, “We’ve got a number of measures in place to help people shop safely. There are clear markings and certain roads that have been closed, to maximise safety which is everyone’s main concern. Shops have also put measures in place within their premises to ensure safe distancing when inside also.”
